AutoBookmark Website & Chrome Extension
Effective Date: September 7, 2025
Last Updated: September 7, 2025

Overview

This policy explains, in plain language, what AutoBookmark ("we," "us") does with information when you use the AutoBookmark website (autobookmark.app) and the AutoBookmark Chrome Extension (together, the "Services"). We built this as a simple hobby project and we keep data practices minimal.

What we collect (brief)

You provide:

  • Email and password

Passwords are stored as a one-way hash if you create an account

  • Optional username/display name

    For your account profile

  • AutoBookmark data you create

Names, descriptions, selectors/rules, status, preferences, and images you choose to upload

  • OAuth authentication data

If you choose to sign in with Google or Facebook, we only receive your email address and basic profile information as provided by those services

Extension activity (only when you use it):

  • When you click 'Create AutoBookmark'

The extension sends the page's HTML to our server to generate the AutoBookmark

  • When a specific AutoBookmark is actively tracking on the current tab

We receive the current page URL and your position/progress for that AutoBookmark

  • Otherwise

We do NOT collect page content or your browsing history

Technical logs:

  • Default Azure server logs

Standard Azure logging (timestamps, error messages, request details) to keep things running and secure. IP addresses are masked/anonymized by default. These are kept only as long as needed for that purpose

  • Browser console errors

Are NOT collected or transmitted by the extension

Extension permissions:

  • scripting permission

Only runs on domains you have explicitly granted permission for. It checks whether the active page matches an AutoBookmark boundary. If you click the app icon, the extension analyzes the page structure and may send page content to our servers to generate an AutoBookmark. Otherwise, page content is never sent.

  • tabs permission

Used to access current tab information AutoBookmark trackign to work

  • host permissions

Required to access autobookmark.app and api.autobookmark.app for authentication and data sync and for the app to work

  • optional_host_permissions

Let you choose which sites the extension can run on. You can grant or revoke these at any time through Chrome's site access settings.

How we use information

  • Provide the core features

Create AutoBookmarks, track/sync progress, keep your settings

  • Maintain, secure, and improve the Services

Keep everything working and make it better

What we don't do

Sharing

  • Service providers

We share only what's necessary with Azure (cloud hosting), Cloudflare (DNS), and authentication services (Google OAuth, Facebook OAuth) that host or process data for us so the Services work

  • Legal/safety

If the law requires it or to protect rights and safety

  • Business transfer

If we ever merge/sell assets, your information may transfer with notice

Storage & retention (simple)

  • On your device

Auth/session tokens and extension data stay in your browser until you clear it or uninstall the extension

  • On our servers (when signed in)

Account/profile data, AutoBookmark data, and uploads are stored while needed to operate your account and the Services. When you delete your account or content, we remove it from active systems; backups are deleted according to our standard retention schedule

Security

We use standard safeguards appropriate for a small project. No method is perfect, but we work to protect your information.

At any time through the extension or website

International data

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own; we use reasonable safeguards consistent with this policy.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here. Using the Services after an update means you accept the new terms.

Chrome Web Store compliance (at a glance)

  • Single purpose

Track your position in serial content with AutoBookmarks

  • No remote code

All code is bundled with the extension

  • Minimal permissions

    We request only what's needed

  • Clear disclosures

The extension explains when pressing 'Create AutoBookmark' sends page HTML, and shows when tracking is active
